Good things from 2009

Finding reasons to be depressed about 2009 is an easy sport. So I thought I'd throw a pebble into all of that and see what little ripples of goodness it might dredge up. Here are a few under-sung things that made me go "Wow!", "Wow" or "wow..." over the past year. You might like them too.

Outside my parents' house in North Carolina, this morning, after six inches of snow and sleet fell last night. He looks cold.

'We call this place Happyland'

The search for the true meaning of Christmas continues, in a big way:

We have over 85,000 lights and 15 displays [on] 1.5 acres. No one photo can show it all. A real firetruck, a smoke breathing dinosour, a UFO with aliens, a santa & sleigh 30 ft in the air, snow machines, just to name a few. [...] Some items are over 25 years old. We also just received a certificate from the Governor in appreciation for service to the community for my display. We call this place Happyland.
